In managing the project, OAS is adopting JIRA as a project management and project collaboration tools. JIRA is a web-based application developed by Atlassian Software Systems, JIRA provides bug tracking, issue tracking and project management functions. It is commonly used for
- Software bug tracking or new feature development
- Support helpdesk
- Internal project management systems
It combines a clean, fast interface for capturing and organizing issues with customizable workflows, dashboards and a pluggable integration framework.
JIRA in its entirety is based on 3 concepts:
- Issue: Every task, bug, enhancement requests, story, and all the whatnot to be created and tracked via JIRA is an Issue
- Project: A collection of Issues
- Workflow: A series of steps an Issue goes through, starting from creation until completion.
JIRA Issue can be assigned to a project team member, and its status tracked. Issue status can be viewed at a glance, telling persons of interest how long to resolve it, what has been done, what remains to be done, etc. Issues can be linked together to create dependencies (blocking task until its dependencies has been satisfied), or created as child issues (issues is completed if all child are completed). The workflow can be customized to fit the way the organization works. Project progress is tracked through completion of its Issues.
OAS’s understanding of the above concept enables OAS to implement JIRA as a flexible framework for project management and tracking in almost any organization. JIRA flexibility allows OAS to configure it to conform to different tracking strategies based on the wants and needs of the organization.
