Infrastructure Monitoring Software

As part of the technical services provided to client, OAS adopted Nagios as a tools for system and infrastructure monitoring. OAS is conversant with the implementation of Nagios from the ground up to monitor systems components, including servers, network equipment (switches, routers, etc.), network appliances (firewalls, load balancers, etc.), and desktop computers, using out-of-the-box plugins, or developing customized plugins for specific monitoring purposes. OAS develop custom Nagios event handlers, tweak notification rules, and optimize monitoring configuration and many other configuration settings that can be set for specific purposes.  It alerts the users when things go wrong and alerts them a second time when the problem has been resolved.

Nagios monitoring capabilities include monitoring of network services (email services such as SMTP and POP3, web server services including HTTP and HTTPS, etc.), host resources (processor load, memory usage, disk usage, etc.) and a number of system components through custom plugins or scripts (SNMP, IBMS, etc.). It can do remote monitoring via remotely executed scripts, either through SSH, SSL tunnels or other remote execution tools. Plugins are essentially scripts (shell scripts, Perl, Python, PHP, etc.), which can be used out of the box, customized, or developed from scratch.

Later versions of Nagios provide more capability including data graphing, network hierarchical display, and database storage for making data available to other systems. Event handlers, which are scripts to perform automated recovery, can be executed based on alerts.
